Spring arrives with a bang. Kunming's cherry blossoms and magnolias bloom across the city. The rapeseed fields between Kunming and Dali turn the landscape into a sea of yellow. Dali's cherry blossoms peak in March — the old town framed by pink flowers against Cangshan's backdrop is postcard-perfect. Lijiang's weather is warming up, making outdoor exploration comfortable. March is ideal for cycling around Erhai Lake in Dali — temperatures are perfect (18-22C). Bring layers — mornings can still be cool, especially at altitude. Cherry blossom viewing at Kunming's Yuantong Temple is a must. Book accommodation in Dali ahead — March draws blossom chasers.
